Join us for a hands-on event where we explore what happens when geometry stops being flat. In this workshop, you will build your own curved surface using simple materials like paper, cardstock, and tape. No prior math background is needed. If you can cut and tape, you are ready to participate.
We will experiment with different shapes, such as equilateral triangles, squares, and polygons, and see how they fit together. As you build, you will notice that some combinations lie flat, while others begin to curve and twist. This is a direct way to explore ideas from hyperbolic geometry, where space behaves differently from the flat surfaces we are used to.
You will be able to construct and take home your own model. Come try something creative and see what happens when polygons refuse to stay flat.
