Stop by Study Abroad's info table to learn more about our new summer program in France! "France in a Bottle: Perfume, Power, and Practice" will bring students across France to discover the world of perfume.
Perfume is more than just fragrance: it tells stories about culture, memory, and power. In this course, students will explore how scent has shaped French history and identity, from royal courts to modern luxury brands. Through literature, film, advertising, and visits to perfume houses and museums, we will discover how perfumes are imagined, marketed, and experienced. Students will also learn the science behind scent, including how fragrances are extracted from plants and transformed into the perfumes we know today.
