Abstract: The theories of Special and General Relativity introduced by Einstein in the early 1900s radically shifted our understanding of the universe. Surprising implications of the theories include time itself slowing down for objects moving at high speeds and the existence of mysterious black holes from which nothing - not even light - can escape. In the 100+ years since the inception of Relativity, numerous experiments have verified its theoretical predictions, suggesting reality is as strange as the theory implies. In this talk we will discuss the mathematics that makes General Relativity possible. With our mathematical tools in hand, we will explore specific examples of spacetime geometries.
