All interested Lafayette faculty and staff are invited to an all-day (approximately 8:30am-3pm) symposium on Tuesday, August 20 in the Fleck Room of Marquis Hall. Featuring panels and presentations from Lafayette colleagues in philosophy, computer science, writing, and other disciplines, the symposium will address the ethics of AI, the technical workings of the technologies, and student use. It will help map an agenda as faculty and students work to build AI literacy across the curriculum.
Katherine Elkins will deliver the keynote. Elkins is co-director of the digital humanities lab at Kenyon College and has been collaborating with computer scientists--and students--for the last decade to bring computational techniques to the humanities and social sciences.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
An optional CWP workshop will take place the following day (Wednesday, August 21 from 1pm-3pm) for those looking to develop practical classroom activities.
