This presentation discusses the emergence of lower- and middle-class Andeans into the visual field of photography in the early 20th century, principally through studio portraiture.  It will discuss strategies of representation, habits of studio practice, and what it means to pose and produce images of the self in Peru and Bolivia during the period.
