DESCRIPTION:Using 'model organisms\,' such as mice\, allows researchers to
examine \nbiological mechanisms for human health and disease in an efficie
nt way. \nHowever\, translation of physiological and behavioral findings
is necessary to \nidentify potential gene-environment interactions and dev
elopmental processes \nthat are involved in human disease. Virtual enviro
nments\, which mimic the \ntasks employed to examine behavioral phenotypes
in mice\, are one way to \ntranslate basic research to the human populati
on. Through an ongoing \nmultidisciplinary collaboration we have begun to
translate research on the \nbiological basis of Developmental Dyslexia by
translating findings in gene \nknockout mice to children\, 8 to 12 years
old\, with Reading Disorder.\n\nThis talk is supported by the EXCEL Schola
rs Program. All are invited\, and \nlunch will be provided.
