Plastic which is now the most common form of marine debris, and the effects of this human-generated pollution on marine life due o entanglement and ingestion are well documented. Media interest in the " Great Pacific Garbage Patch " and debris generated by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan has focused public & scientific attention on plastic marine debris.
