RFM "Math and Myth" Laura Malley-Schmitt The Lafayette Sorority Membership process is mutual selection process. It is full of myth and math. The Lafayette College Sorority Community invites all students and faculty to join us for a open presentation hosted by Laura Malley-Schmitt. Laura joined Alpha Phi's Zeta Phi chapter at M.I.T. in February 1985 and has been volunteering ever since. Laura's contributions have not only impacted Alpha Phi but also the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), as a whole. Laura served as the chairman of the newly created Membership Standing Committee from 1998-2002 during which time Rush While serving on Alpha Phi's NPC delegation in 2002, she decided to do something about it. In 2005, Laura received special recognition from NPC for her development of the Release Figure Method (RFM). To date, RFM is used on 95% of the campuses that participate in formal recruitment. RFM has saved many chapters from closing and has happily placed hundreds of women in sororities. She is the creator of (RFM) Release figure methodology. The formulas that are contained in the methodology were her work. The process was then thoroughly vetted by Dr. Tara Riemer Jones, who has her doctorate in statistics from Johns Hopkins. Dr. Jones was instrumental in the process. She is also the person who took all of the formulas and created the "software" we use (really an involved Excel workbook) that trained specialists use to determine the figures.
