DESCRIPTION:.. Mapping the Deep Sea and the Power of Visualization\n\nAbstr
act:\n\nDuring its first two years in operation\, the DSSV Pressure Drop c
ollected \nmore than 1 million km2 of deep sea bathymetric data from some
of the deepest \nplaces in the world in support of manned-submersible di
ves and general \nscientific exploration. This presentation will discuss
four major expeditions \nwithin these two years and how GIS was critical
to the identification of \nseveral new seafloor features and species of d
eep sea life\, the deployment of \na manned-submersible more than 25 time
s to the world’s deepest depths\, and \nthe success of more than 100 scie
ntific lander deployments. Highlights from \nthe bathymetric data\, scien
tific lander videos\, and stories from the \nexpeditions will be shared.
