DESCRIPTION:Profoundly hard of hearing\, Cann’s reliance on hearing aids fr
om the age of \nfour make her optimistically curious about new technologi
es\, and she \nchallenges the audience to rethink the ways in which they
might create \naccessible spaces and interrogate traditional notions of b
iology and death. \n From robots to augmented and virtual realities\, met
averses and gaming\, Cann \nmakes the argument that these technologies ar
e not as foreign or as strange \nas they first might seem. Along the way\
, she also argues for a more inclusive \nworld that recognizes the gifts
that disability might teach a world that \nprivileges non-disabled people
and spaces\n \nBIO: Former Fulbright Scholar and Harvard graduate\, autho
r of five books and \nmany articles\, Candi K. Cann currently teaches at
Baylor University. Her \nresearch focuses on death\, dying\, and grief\,
and she is especially interested \nin the intersections of marginality\,
diversity\, and death technologies\, and \nloves to talk all things death
. When she is not writing\, she can be found \ntraveling\, drinking coffe
e\, and spending time with family. Read more about \nher at www.deathscho
