DESCRIPTION:This is a follow up session to the fall visit of Dr. Mary C. Mu
rphy\, the \n2026-27 Hanson Center Visiting Scholar. Dr. Murphy [1] is an
  internationally \nrecognized scholar in advancing diversity\, equity\, a
nd inclusion\, and \ntheHerman B. Wells Endowed Professor of Psychologica
l and Brain Sciences at \nIndiana University [2].  Engage with Dr. Murphy
via this Zoom session about \nefforts to create “cultures of growth” at
Lafayette College. Dr. Murphy's \nresearch shows that mindsets are not ju
st individual beliefs\; they are also \nshaped by classrooms\, workplaces
\, and organizational cultures. These local \ncultures can either promote
“cultures of growth” that foster learning\, \ncollaboration\, and inclus
ion or “cultures of brilliance” that reinforce \nthreat\, fixed ability b
eliefs\, and inequality. \n\nThe author of more than 100 publications\, Dr
. Murphy was awarded the 2019 \nPresidential Early Career Award for Scien
tists and Engineers\, the highest \naward bestowed on early career schola
rs by the U.S. government. Her book\, \nCultures of Growth: How the New S
cience of Mindset Can Transform Individuals\, \nTeams\, and Organizations
(Simon & Shuster)\, has received positive reviews \nincluding being hera
lded as 'Required reading for anyone who has wondered how \nto create a c
 ulture that supports innovation\, risk-taking\, integrity\, and \ninclusi
on.'  \n\nDr. Murphy is  an elected fellow of the American Association for
the \nAdvancement of Science. She is also the founding director of the S
ummer \nInstitute on Diversity at Stanford University’s Center for Advanc
ed Study \nin the Behavioral Sciences [3] and the founder and CEO of the
Equity \nAccelerator [4]—a research and consulting organization that part
ners with \ncolleges and other organizations to build equitable learning
 and working \nenvironments.\n\n\n[1] https://marycmurphy.com/\n[2] https:
