Abstract: Consider the equation x^3 + y^3 + z^3 = 3. Can you come up with integer values for x, y, and z that solve the equation? How about for the equation x^3 + y^3 + z^3 = 33? The solution to the latter question was found using computational methods. In this talk, we will briefly explain this problem and its solution as motivation for a discussion on computational number theory. In particular, we will talk about how ideas from theoretical math and computer science play off one another, primarily in the realm of modular forms and their higher rank analogue.
