Dr. Craig McClain
Dr. Craig McClain is the Godchaux/BORSF Endowed Professor in Coastal Biodiversity Research at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. In addition to his work on deep sea marine ecology, Dr. McClain has analyzed how financial privilege is a central, yet largely ignored, determinant of who enters, persists in, and is recognized in STEM. His insightful analysis has demonstrated that systemic economic barriers operate at every career stage. Dr. McClain will describe his research and explore the structural reforms needed to make STEM careers economically sustainable for those without intergenerational wealth.
