Class Dismissed: When Colleges Ignore Inequality and Students Pay the Price

Dr. Anthony Jack is the Inaugural Faculty Director of the Boston University Newbury Center and Professor of Higher Education Leadership. His research documents the overlooked diversity among lower-income undergraduates: the Doubly Disadvantaged­ (those who enter college from under-resourced public high schools) and the Privileged Poor­ (those entering from private boarding, day, and preparatory high schools). Drawing from his recent book, Class Dismissed: When Colleges Ignore Inequality and Students Pay the Price, Dr. Jack offers a compelling look at how colleges celebrate enrolling diverse student bodies while leaving historically-marginalized students to navigate financial hardship, isolation, and other challenges on their own. In his presentation Dr. Jack will provide recommendations for how to bridge the critical gap between access and inclusion.
