DESCRIPTION:Join filmmaker Sierra Pettengill for a screening of two films: 
 Graven Image \n(2017\, 10 mins) and Riotsville\, USA (2022\, 90 mins).\n\n
 Sierra Pettengill is a filmmaker from Brooklyn. Her work focuses primarily
  on \nthe warped and dangerous historical narratives undergirding the Unit
 ed \nStates. Sierra has made methodically researched films about the evolu
 tion of \nthe mid-20th Century police state\, the consolidation of the mod
 ern gun lobby\, \nthe funding and construction of the nation’s largest Con
 federate monument\, \nthe politics of the image in the Reagan administrati
 on\, and the early years \nof the Tea Party. She has also directed several
  short films about artists and \ntheir collaborative projects\, including 
 Harun Farocki\,Fritz Haeg\, and the New \nYork non-profit gallery Artists 
 Space. She has worked closely with archival \nmaterial for over fifteen ye
 ars. In addition to her own film practice\, she \nhas worked as an archiva
 l researcher and consultant for artists including Jim \nJarmusch\, Mike Mi
 lls\, Laura Poitras\, and Adam Pendleton. In 2013\, she \nproduced the Aca
 demy Award-nominated film Cutie & the Boxer\, which also won \nan Emmy Awa
 rd. Sierra’s films have screened at Lincoln Center and MoMA in \nNew York\
 , the Barbican and ICA in London\, the Sundance and Locarno film \nfestiva
 ls\, and in theaters\, television broadcasts\, and on streaming platforms 
 \naround the world\, including the Criterion Channel and Metrograph. In 20
 22\, \nthe Porto Post/Doc Festival in Portugal hosted a retrospective of h
 er films. \nHer writing on art and film has been published in frieze\, Art
 Forum\, Screen \nSlate\, Filmmaker Magazine\, MUBI Notebook\, and Film Com
 ment. She was a \nSundance Institute Art of Nonfiction Fellowand is a Gugg
 enheim Fellow. She \nhas held residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo\, and was
  a 2025 Shandaken \nprintmaking resident. She is proud to serve as a board
  member of Screen \nSlate\, a cinema non-profit based in New York. She is 
 a member of the Academy \nof Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Her latest 
 film\, /Argonauts at the End \nof History/\, will premiere in 2026. She is
  in development on a film \nstructured around Emile Zola's Les Rougon-Macq
 uart novels.
