Can engineers see the invisible and hear the silent? Should they? Why would they want to? Let's find out. Dr. Torrione, an assistant research professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, will discuss his work in software development that detects landmines, identifies deep water oil leaks, and helps cochlear implant technology. As the co-founder of a start-up company, Torrione will also discuss how his work and life as an engineer provide one example of carving out an innovative career, doing interesting work, and coming to understand the difficult ethical tensions of modern, computer-based engineering.
