
Join Kirk and Holly for an afternoon of virtuosic music for saxophone and piano. The program begins with William Albright's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and piano--a large-scale work built from an exploration of musical styles that range from atonal to minimalist to Be-bop. The duo will perform two of Kirk O'Riordan's recent compositions: Prayer Stones (O'Riordan's adaptation of his work for viola and piano that appears on his Autumn WInds CD) and Variations on a Ground Bass. Both works will recieve their Lafayette premiers.
The second half begins with O'Riordan's transcriptions of two Piazolla Tangos: Oblivion and Libertango; and concludes with Piet Swerts' firery Klonos.
The concert begins at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 1. Free tickets are available at the Williams Center Box Office.
