Pentecostal Christianity in India: Megachurches, Conversion, and Supernatural Healing

Earl A. Pope Lecture in Global Christianity

Pentecostalism is taking over the Christian world, particularly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This lecture considers how the growth of Pentecostalism in India manifests global trends (such as in the rise of megachurches and the prominence of spiritual healing in Pentecostal growth), while also considering issues unique to the Indian scene, for example in the anti-conversion backlash provoked by Pentecostal’s evangelization and rhetoric of cultural “rupture.”
