DESCRIPTION:On August 19\, 1792\, the Marquis de Lafayette was captured as
a traitor by the \nHabsburg-Austrian army in Belgium. A treacherous journ
ey from prison to \nprison in Prussia followed until his final incarcerat
ion at the Fortress of \nOlmütz in Habsburg-Austria’s north-eastern provi
nce of Moravia (today \nOlomouc\, Czech Republic) from 1794 until 1797. H
 e was known as “State \nprisoner #2” and experienced harsh conditions\, i
ncluding being denied \nletters and possessions. Eventually\, his wife Ad
rienne and his daughters\, \nAnastasie and Virginie\, were able to join h
im and shared his two prison cells \nfrom October 1795 until September 19
\, 1797\, when Napoleon Bonaparte secured \ntheir release. \n\n*Prof. Lam
b-Faffelberger’s presentation will focus on the harrowing story \nof the
Marquis’s five years of incarceration and share her experience and \nimag
es from her recent visit to the site of Marquis de Lafayette’s prison \ni
 n Olomouc. *
