DESCRIPTION:Though numerous programs and policies have been shown to improv
e long-term \noutcomes for youth\, finding similar successful efforts for
youth with \ndisabilities has been historically difficult. In this paper
\, we report on the \nresults of a randomized controlled trial with 12\,0
00 Supplemental Security \nIncome recipients that offered intensive suppo
rts and services to youth with \ndisabilities from low-income backgrounds
. These services improved youth’s \nemployment and reduced health care ex
penditures as they transitioned into \nadulthood. Mediation analysis sugg
ests that early paid employment experiences \nplayed a critical role in t
 hese long-term improvements.
