This thesis is a multi-media summation of my primary creative and scholarly research endeavors at Lafayette College. It includes 1) Reflections Abroad - a full-length album of original music that was recorded at a live performance at William Center for the Arts in October 2024 as part of this capstone thesis, 2) Entries of Freeformers and Friends, a second evening-length performance of original music recorded at William Center for the Arts in April, 2025, 3) discussion and analysis of selections from both of these albums with reference to accompanying audio materials, 4) some background on the history and cultural significance of my primary instrument, the steel pan, 5) reflections on trends in contemporary pan performance, drawing on interviews I conducted with prominent steel pan players, and 6) some thoughts on my current and future directions for scholarly research, professional performance, and composition work involving the steel pan.
