The community is welcome to a presentation by Dr. Sylvia Smoller, who is Jewish and from Poland. She fled to the U.S. with her parents after receiving a visa from Sugihara when she was 7 years old.

About the speaker:
Dr. Smoller’s father, Aleksander Hafftka, was the only Jew in the Polish government of Independent Poland. Her parents’ lives, and her own, were saved from the Holocaust by Chiune Sugihara who issued the family transit visa #459, enabling them to escape, through Japan, to the United States. Dr. Smoller graduated from Syracuse University in New York and New York University in New York. She is an American epidemiologist and Distinguished University Professor Emerita in the Department of Epidemiology & Population Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
