Spend your summer studying abroad in Paris, France with Profs. Wendy Wilson-Fall (AFS) and Mathieu Perrot (LLS)! Lumiere Noire: Tracing the African Diaspora in Paris is a new faculty-led program that explores the city's complicated relationship with race and the Black American identity. Despite France's official "colorblindness," Black writers and artists who visited Paris were distinctly aware of their Americanness and their race, which inspired political activism and a pan-African consciousness. The interdisciplinary course will study literature, art, cuisine, geography, and politics, and investigate the national and international identities Paris has influenced.
