DESCRIPTION:/Apaam Swarupam - the form of water/\, is a solo Bharatanatyam
production \nbased on the rivers of India. It incorporates symbolism\, reg
ional cultures\, \nlanguages\, Hindu mythology\, and geography to tell the
story of the major \nrivers of North and South India: Ganga\, Yamuna\, Tu
ngabhadra\, and Kaveri. \nThese rivers have been vital for India's past an
d present economy\, but with \nclimate change\, our rivers are threatened.
Telling the stories of these \nrivers is my way of reminding our global s
ociety of the need to engage in \nconservation and preservation efforts.
\n\nSahana Balasubramanya (she\, her) is an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer
\nand professor of mathematics. An impanelled artist with the Indian Coun
cil \nfor Cultural Relations (ICCR)\, she has performed widely to critical
acclaim\, \nbringing to stage both traditional presentations and thematic
productions. \nShe has been conferred with awards and titles for her work
in India and the \nUSA. Sahana served as a senior faculty member at Ganes
a Natyalaya\, India \nfrom 2007-2013 and was an instructor with the Vander
 bilt Dance Program from \n2014-2018.
