In the US, STEM work is routinely touted as a leading path for economic advancement, particularly for women from historically underrepresented groups. But do the promises of STEM really come true? Drawing from their recent book Disparate Measures: The Intersectional Economics of Women in STEM Work (MIT 2024), Lafayette professors Mary Armstrong (Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies) and Susan Averett (Economics) will present their research on the STEM work experience of women with disabilities and the realities of how this diverse group of women fares in US STEM jobs.
