This week’s McKelvy discussion will explore the concepts of volunteerism and voluntourism, along with what values are important in distinguishing the two from each other. We will contemplate the reasons why someone may participate in volunteer tourism, including discussions of privilege and the motivation of do-gooders. In addition to this, we will examine potential impacts voluntourism has on a community, such as its psychological, economic, or environmental consequences.

McKelvy is currently recruiting members for next year. We invite any students undergoing the recruitment process to take a house tour, which will be offered when discussion ends.
