The talk strives to connect earlier experiments in wireless engineering and computing technologies in India with contemporary “smartness” initiatives purportedly catalyzed by 5G and the role of Indian start-ups in “Digital India.” Drawing relations across media histories, media archaeologies, and media engineerings, the talk in particular focuses on the past-and-present entanglements of plant sensing and wireless signals as well as how software services have become part of app infrastructures.
