DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Dr. Otruba will discuss her research and traveli
 ng photovoice \nexhibition\, /Violent Infrastructure: Ecologies of Decay a
 nd Displacement/. \nThis exhibition features a curated sample of photograp
 hs taken by ten \ninternally displaced persons (IDPs)\, who were forced to
  flee the 1992-1993 \nGeorgian-Abkhaz war. The pictures capture these IDPs
 ' three-decade-long \nexperience living under abject and decaying 'tempora
 ry '' housing conditions \nin the former Soviet spa resort of Tskaltubo\, 
 Republic of Georgia. The \nphotographs were collected as part of a feminis
 t visual ethnography project \nstudying the emotional impact of housing in
 frastructure quality on IDPs' \nsense of identity\, dignity\, personhood\,
  agency\, and sense of futurity. During \na period of unprecedented number
 s of forcibly displaced people worldwide\, the \nexhibit brings visibility
  to the slow violence of urban displacement and \nwar's capacity to harm o
 ver an elongated time horizon. In doing so\, it seeks \nto inspire a criti
 cal reimagining of more caring and just spatial futures for \ndisplaced po
 pulations in Georgia and beyond.
