Day of the Dead - Dia de los Muertos

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrating and remembering deceased loved ones through ofrendas (altars) with photos, marigolds, candles, sugar skulls, and favorite foods. It merges indigenous and Catholic beliefs, fostering community and keeping the memory of the departed alive. It's a unique, vibrant, and culturally significant tradition. At Lafayette College, the Office of Intercultural Development, Office of Religious & Spiritual Life, Hispanic Society of Lafayette, Lafayette College Library, and various Latinx faculty and staff annually come together with the entire Lafayette community to celebrate this holiday. This includes activities like setting up an altar, enjoying Mexican pastries, and commemorating our lost loved ones. Join us during our Lunch & Learn event!

You can also drop off an item you would love to place on our altar. Pictures must be of people and not of objects such as flags, landmarks, or any harmful image that can affect various cultural identities on campus. Each picture and object will be reviewed by The Office of Intercultural Development and The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life.
