The concert will feature selections from the quintet’s critically acclaimed holiday recording, “Christmas Spirit,” on the MSR Classics label. One of the program highlights will be include “A Little Christmas Medley,” which includes a witty English music hall version of the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” flamboyantly arranged in styles ranging from Spanish flamenco to swing with duck calls, car horn, whip, train and referee’s whistles, cow bells, coconut shells, castanets and kazoo. Copies of the recording will be available for sale at the concert. Mainstreet Brass formed in 1986, inspired by a musical camaraderie, a passion for brass quintet literature and performance and a goal to present interesting and entertaining music to its audiences. The quintet has performed for enthusiastic audiences at arts festivals, colleges and concert series in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, New England, the Midwest and the United Kingdom. Members are Kevin Long and Donald Hughes, trumpets; Shari Gleason-Mayrhofer horn; Bryan Hay trombone; Allen Frank, tuba; and Kevin Karchner, percussion. Proceeds from ticket sales will help support the Friends of the Williams Center, a nonprofit organization that supports a wide range of activities, including educational and community outreach opportunities with visiting artists and helping commission new works.
