  institutions\, Beers \nwitnessed and was subjected to horrible abuse. Fro
 m these experiences\, Beers \nset into motion a reform movement that took 
 shape and is known today as \nMental Health America.\n\nMHA’s programs and
  initiatives fulfill its mission of promoting mental \nhealth and preventi
 ng mental illness through advocacy\, education\, research \nand services.
