A Petersen graph is an example of an EXTREMAL graph. In this talk, we will explore similarly described extremal objects. Generalized quadrangles (and especially their point-line incidence graphs) will be of particular interest. We will study them using systems of equations, and explain how such systems might be used to build previously undiscovered structures.
