Every year, more than one million Indians travel annually to work in the Gulf, one of the few international destinations where men without formal education can find lucrative employment. In this talk, Andrea Wright will discuss this labor migration and her research, which follows Indian migrants from their villages to oil projects in the United Arab Emirates. Looking at labor migration as a social process, this talk will demonstrate the role migrant plays in shaping global capitalism.
