 Zoom.  Dr. \nCottom’s talk is part of the celebrations honoring the 50th a
 nniversary of \ncoeducation at Lafayette and is open to all.\n\nCottom's w
 ork has been recognized nationally and internationally for the \nurgency a
 nd depth of her incisive critical analysis of technology\, higher \neducat
 ion\, class\, race\, and gender. In 2019\, Cottom released /THICK: and \nO
 ther Essays/\, a collection which has been described as 'essential\,' and 
 the \nChicago Tribune calls Cottom\, 'the author you need to read now.' Do
 rothy \nRoberts compares reading it to 'holding a mirror to your soul and 
 to that of \nAmerica.' /Thick/ was the winner of the Brooklyn Public Libra
 ry Literary \nPrice and was a finalist for the 2019 National Book Award. C
 ottom serves on \ndozens of academic and philanthropic boards and publishe
 s widely on issues of \ninequality\, work\, higher education\, and technol
 ogy. She is an associate \nprofessor in the School of Information and Libr
 ary Science at the University \nof North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Senior R
 esearch Fellow at the Center for \nInformation\, Technology\, and Public L
 ife (UNC). Cottom is a recent recipient \nof the  Macarthur genius grant [
 1] \, and  co-hosts /Hear to Slay with \nRoxane Gay/\, a podcast with an i
 ntersectional perspective on celebrity\, \nculture\, politics\, art\, life
