Join us in commemoration of Constitution Day for a presentation by and discussion with Nadia E. Brown, Associate Professor of Political Science and African American Studies, affiliate faculty in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and a University Scholar at Purdue University. Professor Brown received her PhD in Political Science in 2010 from Rutgers University, with major fields in Women and Politics and American Politics. She also holds a graduate certificate in Women's and Gender Studies. Dr. Brown's research interests lie broadly in identity politics, legislative studies, and Black women's studies. Trained as a political scientist and holding a graduate certificate in Women's and Gender Studies, Professor Brown's scholarship on intersectionality seeks to push beyond disciplinary constraints to think more holistically about the politics of identity. Her book Sisters in the Statehouse: Black Women and Legislative Decision Making (Oxford University Press, 2014) was the winner of the 2015 W.E.B. Du Bois Best Book Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists and the winner of the 2015 Anna Julia Cooper Best Publication Award from the Association for the Study of Black Women in Politics. She is co-editor of Distinct Identities: Minority Women in U.S. Politics (Routledge, 2016), and author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and book reviews.
