 t Asian Art.'\n\nUtopian worlds appear frequently in East Asian art\, part
 icularly paintings. \nThese worlds served as the mythical abodes of Daoist
  immortals and Buddhist \ndeities\, as well as the desired sanctuaries of 
 disenfranchised scholars\, who \nwished to renounce worldly affairs. One o
 f the most famous utopian realms is \nthat of the Peach Blossom Springs桃花源
 \, first described by the famous \nfifth-century poet\, Tao Yuanming. This
  fabled land was featured in works of \nart and poems by many later schola
 rs\, including the 8th c. poet Li Bo. In one \nof his works\, Li Bo makes 
 a subtle reference to the Land of Peach Blossom \nSprings\, describing it 
 as “An Altogether Different World” \n(别有天地bie you tian di). This oft-repea
 ted phrase became synonymous \nwith the wonders of this and other utopian 
 realms. This Lafayette exhibition \nwill look at various types of utopian 
 worlds as depicted in Chinese and \nJapanese paintings.\n\nAn exhibition o
 f Chinese and Japanese paintings from the Philip and Muriel \nBerman Found
 ation\, with assistnace from the Berman Museum at Ursinus College. \nCurat
