Susan Grunewald will discuss her experiences researching German prisoners of war in the Soviet Union from 1941-1956. Her dissertation examines members of the former Nazi army remained in Soviet forced labor camps for eleven years after the end of the Second World War. She will discuss the main arguments of her research, ultimately that the Soviet government mobilized them for postwar reconstruction, as well as the process of earning a graduate degree in History, researching in former Soviet archives, and GIS digital mapping.
