“Faith embodied” is a fitting description of Ronald K. Brown’s work, a “sophisticated amalgam of Afrocentric movement and modern dance to make spirituality not merely a passive state but something vibrant and transformative” (Los Angeles Times). These qualities are made manifest in a program that delves deep—1995’s March, set to speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.—and surfaces with new works: Four Corners(2014), in which solace comes to those beset by grief, and New Conversations (2017), with music by Afro-Cuban jazz artist Arturo O’Farrill, a thrill for dance and music lovers alike.
