Every fall Lafayette partners with Goldsmiths University of London to offer one of our signature programs, open to all Lafayette students. If you're interested in living and studying in London this Fall 2018 semester, then this program may be for you.

There will be two Information Sessions for the program coming up soon.

Cookies & pizza (respectively) will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can also meet with Prof. Dave Sunderlin (Program Director, Van Wickle 101B) or the Office of International & Off-Campus Education (Pardee Hall 125) if you cannot attend either of these sessions.

Additional information on the program can also be found on the study abroad website linked here: https://lafayette-sa.terradotta.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=programs.ViewPr...

All students in the program take 4 courses while in London — 3 courses from among Goldsmiths’ diverse offerings in addition to Prof. Sunderlin’s GEOL 191 “London and the History of Natural History” course.   GEOL 191 is a Science & Technology in a Social Context (STSC) course and may be used toward the College's Natural Sciences (NS) requirement in the common course of study.

GEOL 191 Course Description:

London is a hub for the science of natural history.  Indeed the foundations of modern geological and evolutionary thought were put through the mill of intellectual discussion here, and these ideas emerged to change the world.

In addition to concepts in historical geology and evolutionary biology, this course will explore London’s societal context, important places, significant people, and their essential ideas that have so influenced the history of natural history and the scientific revolution.

This course will take place within the halls of the Natural History Museum, at Kew Royal Botanical Gardens, at Crystal Palace, at Darwin’s Down House, at Stonehenge, and at geological field sites around (and far from) London.
