Hispanic/Latino populations are at increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI; pre-AD) at significantly younger ages, yet this health disparity is poorly understood. Therefore, there is a tremendous need for research and methods designed for early detection of the disease in order to facilitate clinical care and novel clinical trials. The long-term goal of the Latino-BRAINS (Biomarkers Related to Aging & Incident Neurocognitive Symptoms) study is the identification and validation of blood-based biomarkers that have diagnostic and prognostic value for MCI and AD among Latino populations, and Dr. Britton will share her experiences in developing aging research in Panama.
