Calligrapher Elinor Aishah Holland’s illustrated presentation highlights this traditional art form and essential part of Islamic culture and civilization that exists from Morocco to Indonesia. Ms. Holland received the Icazet, or calligraphic certification (for Thuluth and Naskh styles) in Arabic script in 2013 after years of study. As a freelance lettering artist in Latin and Arabic scripts, she frequently speaks and leads workshops on Islamic calligraphy. Her work has been commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute, the New York Public Library, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the U.S. Department of State.
