This talk will focus on the practices of memory-making and forgetting in Cyprus after the partition in 1974. Professor Rabia Harmansah will discuss how formerly shared landscapes contributed to the ways in which collective remembering and forgetting are practiced by Greek and Turkish Cypriots, and how religious and cultural heritage was destroyed, manipulated, accommodated, and reimagined during periods of conflict. Professor Harmansah conducted ethnographic research on Orthodox Christian and Muslim sites for two years in both the Greek/Southern and the Turkish/Northern parts of Cyprus.
