In recent months, we have witnessed a spike in anti-Muslim bigotry. This manifests in a variety of ways from hate speech, physical assault against Muslims, and even anti-Muslim presidential executive orders. This presentation and facilitated discussion will touch on the following:

  • The historical and legal commitment in the United States to religious freedom and diversity.
  • An examination of anti-Muslim bigotry and its roots in false stereotypes, misinformation, and fear of the perceived other.
  • Theories and insights from leading voices in interfaith dialogue.
  • Practical ideas for combating anti-Muslim bigotry.

Presenter: Brett Hendrickson is an assistant professor in the Religious Studies department where he teaches courses on Latin/a and Latin American religions, religion and healing, and contemporary religious issues.
