This two-day symposium titled “Shakespeare, Race, and the Practical Humanities” will address the practical humanities with a special focus on Shakespeare and race, as mediated through Shakespeare, the quintessential figure in the humanities. Featured scholars include Michael Witmore, director of the Folger Shakespeare Library; Ayanna Thompson, professor of English at George Washington University; Peter Erickson, visiting resident scholar at Northwestern University; and Kim F. Hall, Lucyle Hook Chair of English and professor of Africana Studies at Barnard College.

ADDITIONAL EVENT: Actor and playwright Keith Hamilton Cobb will speak on "The Thing is the Thing: Playing and Not Playing Shakespeare While Black" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Colton Chapel today. Cobb has acted on TV programs and in plays throughout the country.
