Please join us at 12:15pm on Thursday, October 27 for the first ARC Works-in-Progress talk of the Fall Semester!  Assistant Professor Brett Hendrickson (Religious Studies) will be giving a talk entitled “The Interweaving of Pilgrimage and Tourism at the Santuario de Chimayó”.  Lunch will be served.

Abstract:  “The Santuario de Chimayó in northern New Mexico is the largest site of pilgrimage in the United States with almost half a million visitors annually. Pilgrims, tourists, and others flock to this adobe Catholic Church both for its beauty and in response to the place's reputation for miraculous healing. This talk examines pilgrim and tourist visits to the Santuario and reflects on the ritual overlap that exists between religious pilgrimage and tourism.”
