And Guests

Celebrating the music of India with two sitar concertos by composer and virtuoso sitarist Hasu Patel, the program features the world premiere of Swara Leela (“Divine Play of Notes”), the first concerto ever composed for sitar and tabla with chorus and orchestra, based on the evening raga Yaman Kalyan. A specialist in the Gayaki Ang (vocal) style, in which the sitar replicates the fluidity and nuances of the human voice, Patel will also perform her composition for sitar, tabla, and orchestra, Mangal Dhwani(“Auspicious Sound”). The Lafayette Concert Chorus joins her, and ventures farther east with ensemble pieces from China, Japan, and Indonesia.

Tickets: This is a free event, but tickets are required and can be obtained through our ticket office, either as individual tickets or as a part of a subscription to the World Stage series.
