Tanya Tagaq
Nanook of the North

Ethereal and guttural, transcendent and terrifying, Tanya Tagaq’s unique style may be rooted in the throat singing of her Inuit ancestors, but her work is the future-ready expression of musical genius. In this live concert with film, she applies a 21st-century prism to the 1922 documentary Nanook of the North. With percussionist Jean Martin and violinist Jesse Zubot, Tagaq envelops her audience in a soundscape as ferocious as the sub-Arctic landscape depicted on the screen. This is not a concert to warm you on a winter’s eve, but a crusade of pure poetry that will set your soul on fire.
