Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
Vadim Gluzman, violin

For 44 years, Orpheus has drawn on an encyclopedic range of ideas in the crafting of each adventurous program. Their February concert is no exception as, for the first time, they undertake Tchaikovsky’s only Violin Concerto; Ukrainian-born Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman returns to command the fiercely challenging score. Highlighting composers of varied heritage and traditions across four countries, the program includes Chabrier’s resplendent Idylle and Danse Villageoise, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, “Scottish,” and the premiere of a new work by composer Michael Hersch, commissioned as part of Orpheus’ American Notes initiative.

Program: Chabrier / Idylle and Danse Villageoise // Tchaikovsky / Violin Concerto, Op. 35 // Hersch / Premiere // Mendelssohn / Symphony No. 3, Op. 56 “Scottish”
