As a part of this year's Black Heritage Month celebration, Intercultural Development has organized a visit to a Sunday service at the Greater Shiloh Church on the southside of Easton. With over 2000 members, Greater Shiloh is one of the largest predominantly Black Christian churches in the Lehigh Valley region. It is also one of the oldest, having celebrating its 111th anniversary in 2015. Founded as a Baptist organization, Shiloh became non-denominational in the 2000s. Sunday services are lively and celebratory, with rocking contemporary worship music and dynamic sermons.

A bus will depart from the Williams Center for the Arts at 10:00am sharp on February 7, 2016 and return at approximately 1:00pm. Click here to register for transportation to the church.

African American churches played a major role in the civil rights era, with several ministers serving as leaders of the movement. Read a brief essay about some of the religious leaders of the civil rights era. Today, Black churches continue to not only serve as places of worship, but as community centers, social networks and hubs for organizing social movements.

Also, at 8pm on February 7, the Association of Black Collegians and Intercultural Development invite you to join us for Super Bowl 50 at the Portlock Center. Pizza and wings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
