"A Geometer's Apology: Confessions of a Wannabe Physicist"
The connections between geometry and physics comprise a compelling tale in the history and philosophy of science. We will give a glimpse of this interaction, from a mathematical perspective, drawing on both classical examples and recent developments that reveal the inexorable link between the two fields.
Though this talk probably won't conjure up memories of your high school geometry class, it may very well reinforce stereotypes about mathematicians. We apologize in advance for every single equation that will appear in the talk, except for the Pythagorean Theorem.
